There are several ways to get started cleaning out and organizing your closet.
#1 Start with a Clean Slate
First pull everything out to start with a fresh clean space. Now it's time to sort through and decide what to keep and what not to keep. This is where you'll need to be honest with yourself most... Even though I love it, I never wear it.... So it's ok to part ways with it.
This process can be significantly more effective with a friend or relative to lend a hand. My mom and I have gone through each others closets over the years sorting through everything together, trying on clothes, and making decisions as a duo. Sometimes, having another person can help you see things from a different angle. For example, you might always wear a certain shirt with a certain skirt, but someone else may encourage you to try it with different pants or a jacket. This type of input can be priceless, as it could uncover a whole new wardrobe within your existing collection.
Now that we've narrowed down what we're keeping, it's time to organize. It's aseptically pleasing for all of your hangers to match one another. Before putting everything back in your closet this is the time to consider new hangers for a cleaner, more consistent look.
#2 Style
Starting with your tops and how to organize them by style. I am a tank top girl. I find them useful all year; for summer when it's hot and for layering throughout the rest of the year. So I separate these into their own section. Then I have long sleeves and short sleeves together. If you're not so much a tank top person then try separating long sleeves vs short sleeves.
#3 Color Coordinating
Begin by sorting your blouses, shirts, etc by color. Start with the reds, placing them neatly in one section of your closet. Next, collect your blues and position them next to the reds, creating a seamless gradient of shades. Continue with greens, followed by yellows, and proceed until all your tops are beautifully arranged in sets of colors. Then proceed with the tank tops in the same manner. If you have a 2 hanging tiered system, place the tanks on the bottom rack. This organization not only enhances the visual appeal of your wardrobe but also streamlines your morning routine, making it easy to find the perfect top that suits your mood and style
#4 Fold
I gave up hanging my pants on hangers along time ago. I lived in a place that had very little closets or storage at the time and I needed a different approach to my system. So I began folding. It turned out to be a surprisingly efficient solution. Not only did it save space, it also made it easier to see all my options at a glance especially continuing with the same color coordinating done with my tops.
#5 Storage
Everyone loves a good heel. It's even better when you get to display them. It’s truly wonderful to have the space to store my shoes in a shelving system. This setup is not only clean but also organized by color, making it effortless to find the perfect pair for any occasion. Each shoe has its own designated spot, and with the pull out shelving, it's easy to see everything at a glance. I absolutely love this arrangement, as it showcases all my options and inspires my next creative outfit.
If you lack the space for such a display, another effective solution I've used is hanging shoe racks. This also provides a tidy, organized appearance and blends seamlessly with hanging clothing.
These are just a few ideas to get you organized and ease your daily routine.
